About the role

As the Payment Operations Manager at Hume Bank, you will lead our payments team to ensure efficient processing and maintain financial controls of Hume Bank’s payment activities.

You will oversee the robust risk and control framework to mitigate operational risks, safeguard the bank’s assets (specifically its operating and settlement accounts), and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

The role will see you supporting the broader Finance Team, in particular Financial Control, through the oversight of all key reconciliations, payment flow integrity, and exception handling to ensure consistency, efficiency, and positive customer outcomes.

As a leader, you will foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement across your team to drive financial accuracy. Your collaborative nature will allow you to effectively partner with finance, treasury, and business units to align payment processes with broader financial strategies.

You will be pivotal in driving the reliability and sustainability of the bank’s payments operations while contributing to its broader strategic objectives.

What you can expect

  • Ensure all payment transactions are processed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with bank policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive financial accuracy by developing and implementing streamlined processes
  • Design, implement, and monitor strong risk controls to mitigate operational and financial risks associated with payment processing.
  • Manage bank reconciliations and ensure timely identification and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Drive process improvements and automation initiatives to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Provide regulatory and compliance oversight by ensuring all payment activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and industry guidelines.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including relevant vendors, and partner banks.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all payment-related inquiries and escalations.

About you

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CA/CPA preferred).
  • Proven experience in payment processing or financial control preferably within banking or financial services.
  • Strong knowledge of payment systems, processes, and reconciliation frameworks.
  • Leadership skills that inspire and drive team performance.
  • Analytical thinking with a focus on process improvement and problem-solving.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management capabilities.

This is a full-time permanent position based at our Head Office in Albury, NSW. Flexible working arrangements, such as Working from Home are available when residing in the Albury area.

Our process

  • Once the role is closed, we review all applications against the requirements, creating a shortlist for further review.
  • If your application is successful, you may receive an initial screening call to further assess your suitability, before being invited to an interview.
  • We conduct two rounds of interviews, with the first interview being held with the supervisor and a member of our People Team. You may be invited back to a shorter second round interview with the head of the department.
  • The final stage is to compete some quick compliance checks, before (hopefully) receiving an offer.
